Today I ventured down to the basement to see if I could try to fix my dryer. About half way through disassembling it all to take out the faulty heating element I decided to give up and just hire someone to do the job. I'm sorry, I just don't have the patience for that right now!
But, while I was busy screwing parts back together, my roommate started taking a shower upstairs right above me. Not a problem you'd think, but subsequently I began taking a shower too. Yes, maybe I need one, but I'd prefer to take mine on my own schedule. What was once a small leak at the shower's drain seems to have lead to a bigger problem here. I took a little video so you can understand my situation. Sorry for the poor lighting conditions.
It looks like replacing that shower stall might just be moving up to a sooner project. I'll be caulking soon, if nothing else.
I'll also have to tell the roommates to not take showers while the dryer guy is downstairs! Gotta love the house...

It looks like the water is coming in from a few areas. Is the shower floor currently tiled? If so, I'd assume that the whole floor pan is shot.
I've replaced one in the past, and it was torn out to the studs and replaced with all new tile.
A long, dirty job. Next time I'd install a pre-fabricated shower stall instead of tiling. The floor pan is really tough to make water-tight with tile. If you want to go that route, let me know if you want some book suggestions. I've got a few of 'em - some good, others are crap.
When you start tearing the shower apart, expect to have to replace a lot of wood, especially if it's been leaking for a while. There is bound to be some rot.

I'm planning on putting in a prefab shower stall with glass walls/door because the room is only 5' by 5 1/2' in size. I'm going to lay tile and redo the walls at the same time, so I'll be able to replace all the wood that needs it while I have the walls and floor all open.
I always appreciate the advice!
I have done similar project. What a pain in a neck. One thing pull the others.
